Meltemi
5/7 21:25 - Parianos, Koufonisia - Wow, what a day! The friendly (yes, that right!) port police in Amorgos told us this morning there was going to be 5 bft, north-west.
Boy, were they wrong.
With a north-west wind we could just make it in a straight line to Ano (upper) Koufonisos, which was highly recommended by Dimitris, the skipper of Daphne's Smile. Soon the wind turned out to come from a more northerly direction. This was good.
But... It also grew stronger, and stronger. And the waves... Woah!
In the end, south of Naxos, a REAL Bad MF Meltemi blew our socks off. I think we were the only clowns daring to go out in this 7-8 bft. Unwillingly.
So much for trusting the authorities in Greece. ;-)
Helmut coudn't take the waves (pussy!), so he was put to bed with a double dose of Dramamin. Luckily, Yan did a good job supporting us. And I have to say, Chris is a tougher sailor than some 'tough' guys I've been sailing with.
So here we are, now moored safely in a quiet, indeed highly recommendable bay at yet another magical island in the Cyclades. And Stevie Wonder's classics are taking away all of the day's worries. :-)
